In the year 2011, this Picture came in the News. Music Director S.M JayaKumar ( Music Director Harris Jeyaraj's father) heads a Christian University called Apostolic University. This university provides various degree certificates that includes PhD degrees also. The picture above was taken during the Convocation day in that University on 23 September 2011. Actor Senthil was the chief guest at the event. [ link ] He was introduced as " The Comedian Actor Senthil who has now accepted Jesus Christ as personal Saviour". Many Christians were happy to know that Actor Senthil had accepted Jesus Christ as personal Saviour.
After two years, on 23rd March 2013, Actor Senthil celebrated his 60th Birthday (Arubadhaam Kalyanam) with his wife in a pure Hindu Ceremony. ( Sashtiapdapoorthi). [ link ].
This came as a surprise to some many Christians who had earlier believed that Actor Senthil had accepted Christianity. But this news did not create big waves and soon disappeared into thin air.
After 6 months, in the October of 2013, Actor Senthil was again invited to share his testimony in a Christian Convention where Actor Kumarimuthu shared the message( 20th October 2013). This Kumarimuthu shared a beautiful sermon from the pulpit; but after getting off from the stage started smoking (Those who know Kumarimuthu know that he is a chain smoker and he has not quit smoking even now). Actor Senthil also shared a soul stirring Testimony of how God touched him and brought him out of the clutches of the sinful world. The very next month Actor Senthil became a staunch Hindu and participated in Karthikai Dheepa Thiruvizha in November 2013 (The Dhinakaran newspaper report - Dated 18th November 2013 captures this news)
If you are not able to view the News clearly, the following picture will be helpful. Many Christians are not aware of this stage acting enacted by these stage actors and are still encouraging these actors to preach in Christian conventions.
To make matters worse, Senthil and Kumarimuthu travelled all the way to Bengaluru and started cheating the public with their false testimonies. This happened on the 8th -12th January 2014.
Other Actors who have joined the wagon of preaching and sharing testimonies on stage include Actor Anand Babu and Actor RamaRajan.
Actors who have lost the market in the cine Industry are getting a good pay in Christian stages these days for sharing testimonies. They are paid between Rs 2 Lakhs to Rs 5 Lakhs by the organisers of the conventions; and for these cine artists it is yet another stage for them to perform.
Gone are the days when Sound doctrines were preached in Conventions and people got conviction from the messages. Today it has become an emotional game where stage actors tell emotional testimonies and make the audience to cry. The Organisers of the Conventions get their part (Offertory). The Average Christian becomes the fool.
Before allowing these EX-s on stages in Christian Conventions, if the organisers can also do a quick check on the following points , it would of great help
1) Has the speaker (EX - what ever) has taken baptism
2) Is He/She in a fellowship
3) Do they have a morally stable and good life.
4) Are they continuing in fellowship.
5) What is their belief system
If none of these are checked , we would in deed have more Kumarimuthus ( Chain Smoking Christian preacher), Senthil (Who preaches in a Christian Convention on a Monday and then goes and attends a Kumbabishekam as a fanatic bhakthan on Wednesday) speaking in the stages. There have been Nagmas and Mohinis in the past. Of course the crowd will come to see these actors. Their movies are now not running in cinema theatres. It is running in Christian Convention stages.
